ideas for a 4l60
ideas for a 4l60
i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to do to my 4l60 trans to build it up. i am building my motor to be around 400hp. does anyone know any good kits and what all is involved with it.
By the time you buy all the parts and have it back out a few times, it might be more money wise to have it built by a pro. The 4L60E can be a finicky "animal". One mistake can ruin a bunch of expensive parts. If you've never built an automatic before, this isn't a real good choice to start with. There are even many many "professional transmission builders" that can't get a '60E right.
Incase you want to know what goes into a 9 second capable 4L60E, here's our parts list. Be aware, though...It takes alot more than just good parts.

Personally, I have rebuilt many motors and other various components of the car, but I stop at the tranny. There's too much going on in the unit - only a Pro builder who has seen all the nuances knows what works and what doesnt work in various situations.
I know, a built tranny seems like a large up-front cash layout, but it pays off in the end. I doubt seriously you will want to, possibly, yank your newly self-re-built tranny once (or more times) more to fix something that was missed.
They're pretty much the same tranny, except the (E) is electronically controlled. BTAIM, I *still* wouldn't mess with it.
