Question Hurst shifter won't fit

I recently purchased a Hurst Compitition plus shifter ( part # 391 0061 ) off of eBay. The box states that it will fit a 93 - 95 Camaro with a T-56 transmission. We tried to put it in my son's 97 Z-28 and it would not fit. With the ball in the socket, the base of the shifter was about 3/8 of an inch above the mounting flange. I did not see anyway to adjust the shifter for this but it did not come with any directions. Should this fit? Is there an adjustment that I can make on the shifter to have the base plate lowered? Will it only fit a 93-95 like the box says???????

I just installed the hurst billet plus competiton (# 391-5060) In my instructions it also says it applies to your part number as well, and it says for 1993 - 98 camaro/firebird with borgwarner 6 spd t56. The installation instructions are the same, so I would think they would fit, it looks likr the only difference is the stick. It says your should have a flat chrome stick, as to where mine has a black round stick. I don't understand why it wouldn't fit, mine fit fine.
