Thumbs up

mr.green:
I'm not sure what you mean by "short throw shifter". I bought mine about 5 years ago from Summit ... it was just called a "Hurst Billet/Plus Shifter". I think it's a big improvement on the factory shifter. I found the factory shifter to be vague and it was easy to miss the 3-4 slot when in a hurry.
I've read there was a factory installed Hurst shifter option in later years and supposedly it had the Hurst base but with a Chevy stick that I've heard was a little longer and used a sort of noise/vibration reducing coupling that bolted to the shifter the way my original was.

From what I've heard, the Hurst shifters aren't that great. Some will say otherwise, but a search can bring that up. I would recommend a B&M Ripper or a Pro 5.0. I love my Ripper shifter. If you go with the Pro 5.0, get a short stick to go with it, as the stick is not that short. I think WS6store runs a special package on them.

The "factory" Hurst base was flimsier than the aftermarket Hurst Competition Plus that it was copied from - they were not the same. And the Hurst Billet Plus was a bit sturdier than the Competition Plus, and had the adjustable stops. I ended up with a Pro 5.0.... solid and reliable.

I had the 97ss Hurst shifter option with my car purchase. Not rigid and deflected alot (2 -->3 shift). Missed alot of gears. I went to the Pro_5 and gave away the GM_Hurst factory shifter.

I have the hurst competiton plus (I think it's called) and I like it.

Its a major improvment over the stock piece. It feels much stronger. I haven't missed a gear since I put that in my car. The stock piece made it easy to miss the 3rd shift.

My biggest problem with the stock shifter was how sloppy and loose it felt. The hurst really cleaned that up.

I can't say anything about the others B&M and Pro 5.0, but I'm sure they are major improvments over the stock piece as well.
