Hurst billet plus install ?

I just swaped out the factory shifter with the Hurst billet plus. Everything went slick except when all was said and done when shifting into reverse, the shifter hits the console and is hard to get into reverse. Everything lined up perfect so I dont know what went wrong.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

might be a stupid answer, but are you sure you bolted it to the correct side?

Is your handle loose at all? I have a 97+ console and i have no problem with my hurst hitting the side. You must have something seriously wrong.

Re: Hurst billet plus install ?

Well seeings as we are in the process of getting about 10" of snow, I thought Id go out in the garage and take everything apart down to the shifter again. Nothing else to do...
The shifter is offset on its plate so it only goes one way, so thats on there right. It does look like its about 1/4" taller than the factory shifter. With the lower console back in place and all holes lined up the shaft that the shifter stick, (straight chrome stick) attaches to hits the passenger side clip where the top console slides into when shifting into reverse. Boy thats a mouthful, I hope you all can picture that.
The shifter stick attaches to the serrated side, (drivers side) of that shaft. Thats not a problem.
It still goes into reverse but its real tight and even tighter when the leather boot is snapped in place.
I hope that paints a better picture for you.

Thanks again

Re: Hurst billet plus install ?

i just checked mine and there is at least 1-1.5 inches between the shifter and the console when the car is in reverse. Remember i'm now running a 97+ console too so our setup should be the same.

I had the same problem on my formula. Turns out its just the ends of the bolts for the stick that hit it. Put some spacers on the bolts and it clears.

Before I did that I switched to a poly trans mount (Unrelated) and it made it worse yet.

Re: Hurst billet plus install ?

Well I went ahead and pulled the whole shifter out and put it side by side with the factory one. Other than the new one being a half size bigger, the only other thing that I noticed was the factory shaft has a bend towards the drivers side, whereas the new one is straight up and down. The shaft is what hits the clip on the lower console.
What are my chances of heating up hardened steel and putting a 1/2 inch bend in it?

I think the spacers will help...

Thanks all

I'm running the straight up stick too just like yours. No problems here. Your problem is something else.

Re: Hurst billet plus install ?

By the size of it I think it might have been for a truck.
It was a half size bigger than the factory and this one.
Dont know for sure though.
Cant wait to start hammering thru the gears...
