hp gains (or non-loss) from lightweight flywheel?

got my Fidanza alum flywheel in the mail today, Spec 4 is on it's way.

FW weighs 13lbs....supposedly the stocker weighs 30.

how many hp will this free up do ya think? or more likely torque?

if the alum 1le or LS1 driveshaft frees up 5-7#s at the wheels...this thing must do plenty. i mean it's got to take much more power to spin something heavy that is 14" in dia compared to 3".

gonna be a bitch to "learn" how to drive, but it should make for a VERY quick reving engine.

What about carbon fiber driveshafts? They are lighter than aluminum.

i can't see there being 4x the difference...

but i have heard the CF shafts help out alot

stock vs 1LE 1hp and 5#s torque

1LE vs cf and if i read that correctly thats another 2hp.

we'll see

If your drag racing the car, you went the wrong way. If your road racing the car, you went the right way. If it's a street car, your gonna have trouble leaving stop lights, but more fun on the on ramps and accelerating past everyone.

The lighter the mass, the less kinetic energy it posesses. A flywheel weighing 30 lbs has much more potential energy than one weighing 17 lbs. Think of spinning around with a bowling ball in your hand. Hard to slow down. Now think of a tennis ball. Easy. Thats the differenence.

shannon...

i'm very well aware of the problems.

i don't drag race...don't really plan to other than once to see what she'll do.

don't really road race/autoX but have thought about it. it's more for spirited driving.

and i rarely do any heavy traffic driving, unless by accident.

i'm hopeing it will drive well after the clutch breaks in. if not...i'll pull it and put a billet steel one on.

thanks

Sounds like you will be happy with it in that case Just don't get frustrated learning to drive it

I have the SLP flywheel. Not as light as aluminum, I'm sure but I got completely used to it real quick. You'll like a lighter flywheel.
