How to tell

Well, My rear-end **** out on me a while ago so i got a new rear-end out of a firebird from a junk yard which had 3.42's "so the say" but after i got it back i didnt notice any difference and for some reason i didnt think it ran that good. So is there anyway i can tell if they gave me the 3.42's or not. If so please help me out.

Re: How to tell

If you wanted to test if you had 3.42's, you could jack the back end of the car up and put the car in neutral. This procedure takes two people. Put a mark on the tire and a mark on the driveshaft. Have one person spin the tire 1 revolution while the other is under the car watching how many times the driveshaft spins. If you have 3.42's, after 1 revolution of the tire, the driveshaft should spin almost 3 1/2 times. If you have any questions or have difficulty understanding this, just ask.
