When my tranny goes, I'm thinking of doing this swap. Always wanted a manual, but I couldn't pass the deal I got on my A4. BTW, I have 174k miles on my 94z, and a few people have told me the tranny will go soon, probably around 200,000.

It should have went WAY before 174k and who ever told you around 200k is probably wrong. Ive never seen one last that long before. Chances are whoever owned your car before you probably already did a rebuild.

I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 2K for the swap. That's assuming of course you can do the work yourself. And I agree with white97z, your tranny was probably rebuilt or replaced by a previous owner. 100K would be great mileage from a 4L60E but 200k would be nothing short of spectacular and probably a ton of highway miles with minimal shifting.

I think you can get a complete kit w/the M6 for like $1,500 somewhere. Add in a couple extras you may need and figure doing the work yourself. I bet you could stay under $2,000. Don't forget the interior parts you'll need like the console too.
