How much should a rebuild cost?

I'm having trouble getting it in reverse (since march, when I bought it). (M6)

I see them selling (rebuilt) for $1000. How much would it cost to get mine rebuilt?

I doubt you need it to be rebuilt but if that is the route you want to go, $1K seems a little on the higher end. Well, unless that includes removal and reinstall it's an OK deal. I can get a rebuilt trans here in TX for $700, but things here are generally a little cheaper.

Well, why do you say I don't need to rebuild? How can I fix the problem going into reverse and the problem going into 5th at high speed?

sounds like you have bad synchros, that doesn't require an entire rebuild. but is still costly unless you can do the work yourself.

Opening up trannies can be like opening up a can full of worms. You never know what you may run into. I say if it's going to be a costy job to replace the synchro's, just go on and get a rebiuld anyway and save yourself future hassle.

Re: How much should a rebuild cost?

Kurt, u sure you don't just have the old "console interference" issue? I haven'theard of 5th being affected, but I know my '95 M6 has the problem with the shift arm contacting the edge of the console cut out before the shift lever is fully "in" reverse. Sometimes it pops out of gear, so until I can get the console out & reposition it or clearance it, I simply hold the shifter firmly against the resistance point, no problems. Just throwing it out there in case you haven't checked it yet.
regards,
Ian

Well, when i hold it in gear, sometimes it will be working fine... Then I get this "bang". It works, but sometimes I get that bang, or it just grinds.

Well, there is a place here in detroit (D&D performance) that rebuilt my buddies T56 for 2-500$. You might want to look into it. They are in Wixom, MI.

I will second that.. Ain't no sense in putting stock stuff back in it either.. Upgrade the synchro's and the fork's.. and you should be good.. D&D Get's my vote!

Mine is going to D&D this week. They charge 250 for labor plus parts.
