Question How much HP/TQ can a 97 T56 Handle?

I ran into a huge dead end with my restoration project. I built up the chasis and rear in my car to handle up to 1000 HP. Although realisticly, I am only building for 700 HP. I was planning on using a T56 from a 97 Firebird with a Spec Stage III clutch assembly. I have been told though that this tranny can handle only 500 HP max without gernading.

Can this transmission be built to handle more HP. If any, how much more HP can it handle?

Thanks

Nick

A '94-up F-body T-56 is rated at 450 lbs-ft. The Viper-spec T-56 is good for 550 lbs-ft. There are people on this board that have "Viperized" their T-56's, but I'm not sure if anything more than that can be done.
