How many of you used the T.O bearing that SPEC sent with your new clutch

I understand it is the LT4 style of bearing with straight sides, not round like the LT1 unit. Anyone else have a hell of a time getting the clutch fork to engage it? Mine seems to want to slide over the back of it (behind it on the input shaft towards the tranny) I've been trying to turn the bearing with a screwdriver, and havent had any luck so far. And I fail to see how moving the tranny back an inch or so would help (it is bolted up already and I really dont want to take the damn thing out again, or even just move it back) Any thoughts from those that installed their SPEC units themselves?

Its not an LT4 throwout bearing, it is simply the Corvette throwout bearing that was found in 92-96. Im not sure what the diff is other than the shape. Some say it may be stronger.

The square bearing takes a little more finesse to get the fork in right. You should not have to dicker with the moving the tranny at all.

You will certainly need to have the TOB positioned right for the fork to slide in but it will go. If I can remember right one of the points of the square should be pointing at the fork. Someone corect me if im wrong.

It took me maybe a minute more to get the hang of it.
Just be patient and drink another beer, it will pop in.
Your almost there.

Yeah, I might tinker with it tomorrow. It's almost impossible to really see what angle it's at looking through that little hole.

You can keep messing with it for another couple hours or you can unbolt the tranny and slide it back about an inch to do it the easy way.

I have never done it this way, however this should not be required and I dont see how this can be called the easy way.

Most people can push and the fork in and capture the TOB after clutch install faster than you can chug a single beer. It should just pop right in.
There must be a something else wrong if it wont go.

Regarding the angle, I would think that is you keep stabbing at the TOP it should allign itself.

You would think so but in lots of cases, with the tolerances being so tight it will just not budge. I messed with my buddies car for about two hours then decided to slide the tranny back about an inch to where you can fully see the TO bearing and fork up in there, rotated it perfectly and it slid right on. You have to use a little force to "pop" it on there.

Moving the tranny back will also move the pivot point back for the clutch fork, and make the angle even harder.

Trust me an inch makes less difference than you think.

Edit - Have you tried this method yet? Or are you just speaking hypothetically?

I got it. Once I looked at a couple of pictures of the clutch fork, I realized that it tapered towards the clutch right near the TO bearing. I kept thinking since I couldnt see the flange on the bearing that it hadnt locked on to the bearing. I hooked up the slave, and it appears to be working. I didnt explode the slave cylinder. Gonna finish it up this afternoon and make sure all is well. Didnt have to move the tranny at all
