How to make a built/bullet proof 10 bolt?

I've heard rumor that you can make the stock 10 bolt bullet proof. I was just wondering if anybody has, and how they did it? Is it cheaper then going out and buying a Moser or a Strange? Thanks guys for the input!

Can't make it bullet proof but you can make it stronger. Pick up some strange axles, Eaton diff., a good girdle and have the axle tubes welded to the center. That's about it.

If I were to do somthign like this, about how much HPS do you think it would handle? Would it still be cheaper than a Moser or a Strange?

I'm not going to give a solid number, as the 10-bolt is still a crap shoot. Personally mine has handled over 98,000 miles and 240+ passes down the track and with the only mod being a girdle. Some 10-bolts can't even handle a stock car, and I've seen people break them. There's an article floating around in one of the recent car rags about building up a 10-bolt. Pretty good read; I can't remember which mag it's in as I have so many subscriptions anymore.

You can build up a 10-bolt for ~$1,000, and a Moser or Strange will run you close to twice that.

GM high-tech performance did an article over two issues about it. They did what was mentioned above...upgrade posi, axles, weld axle tubes, girdle...

I want to say the first article was about 4 issues back so look back at the springtime issues

I think the one I was referring to was in Super Chevy, only a month old, but every article I've seen on this topic they've pretty much done the same thing.

Pontiac High Performance and Chevy High Performance have also done articles on 10 bolt buildups. Its funny how each month, all of the various magazines seem to have very similar articles. Or maybe building up the 10 bolt is going to be the new trend.
