I would not rebuild it unless there was something wrong with it. Also I would not feel really comfortable changing the fluid with that my miles on the trans. Some people find that when They change there trans fluid at over 100,000 miles the trans starts sliping right afterwards. I dont think there is a definat answer to your question on how long the trans will last. It will all depend on the care you have taken of it. And your driving habits will play a big roll in it also if you know what I mean. If you do take it somewhere to get it rebuilt make sure they have good reputation for building your model trans.

my 96z28 A4 was bone stock until i did mild cam/heads at 77K miles. it lasted 2 WOT blasts it started slipping then i lost 3rd and 4th gear

if its driven hard, your stock A4 will not last very long, they are known to be weak....

I lost 2nd gear at 125k, limped it along for awhile then I pulled it out and had a local shop do a performance rebuild on it.
Works great now, been over 10k on it so far with no problems. I went with a 2800 stall and its fine but I kinda wish I had done a 3000 stall now........oh well.

I had a tranny fluid flush with a new filter at 140k on my Jeep. It still shifts close to new as well. If you keep up on maintenance on the 4L60E's, they can last well past 100k even with a good amount of hard use. Just don't do anything like neutral drops.

I paid 750 for my rebuild, thats with me doing the R&R.
It does not seem like much between 2800 and 3000 does it? but the difference I have felt is substantial, only problem is you might have a problem with the tranny shifting with a 3000 or higher stall its something to do with the PCM and shift points or something. I think Madwolf or PCM for less can fix the problem though.

41k on the one in my car now and after about 10k behind the heads/cam setup its starting to slip. No big surprise since I'm running a 3000 stall that I lockup at the track. I wouldn't fix it until it breaks though.

112K here and same transmission. I changed the fluid at about 95K and it really was slipping bad. I changed it again when blew a head gasket, and now it is pretty good.

A rebuilt tranny around here is about $900.

The last time I had mine rebuild it was $400.00, parts and labor. Prices will vary greastly by area and how well you know people. For $1,200.00 I could buy a beefed up replacement unit.
