does anyone have or know where i can get install instructions on how to change the rear gears?..i still have stock 3.42's and i wanna go 3.73 or 4.10s...I know u need the tool to check backlash and all that...I just need step by step instructions on how to do it...everywhere i go they want an arm and a leg to put them in..the last person that did my 96 impala only charged me250.00 but he said he has never done them on a camaro, so i want to give it a shot myself...wont learn unless u try right?...thanks in advance!

 

It is a difficult job, even for the experienced, but if you want to try...and "all that" includes a press. If you search, I believe there were some links previously posted to gear install instructions.

 

You can go online and buy an install video that goes step by step. You need ALL the right tools. I have several years experience and can tell you, if you don't get the set rightit's going to do some damage and cost a lot more cash. Research and take your time!

 

Took mine to a shop that has done gear changes supposedly "dozens" of times, cost $600 including seal kit and the Richmond 3.42 gears. At what they planned 85.00/hr they must have lost money on the job. They had the car two days and took them three tries. They told me first time it wined decelerating, second try wined again .. third try was a charm. So far been running three years w/o any problems. Two things that I won't do ..rebuild a transmission and change rear gears.. some jobs s/b left to the experts with the correct tools. Also if they break it they usually have to fix it.
