how to get the motor on the M6 when putting motor back in through the top?????

first time I have tried to put a motor in from the top...........So I have just finished spending the last three hours trying to get the motor to fully engage on the shaft of the tranny (M6) and I can't get it to go in all the way, accordingly I can't bolt the motor mounts to the motor either because the motor won't slide far enough back to do it, I never had this problem when stabbing the tranny on the motor, it was difficult for a few tries and then I got it to slide in, but I spent three straight hours trying to get everything lined up with no success, that's no breaks with me totally sober

but this is really frustrating me immensely, can anyone give me any tips?

I would really like to not pull the tranny drop the motor in and then stab the tranny
