There is just a small piece of rubber that stops the shifter from going all the way back. Pull your console out and look, you cant miss it.

There is a plastic block molded to the shifter gate that prevents the shifter from going back to first. Pull your console and look at the shifter. the block is on the passenger side. Use a small hacksaw blade and saw off the block and you will be able to engage first manually.

Re: how do you unlock 1st gear???

yeah it is very simple I had to do it to mine shortly after getting the car! I used a razor knife it is only a soft material and the whole job takes about 20 minutes, and most of the time was spent taking all my junk out of the console!

It's real easy!
