How to change output shaft bushing?

Ok, so I just finished putting my transmission back into my car from having to replace the front seal. Now the rear seal is acting up since I put a LS1 driveshaft on. I replaced the seal and it still leaks. My Chilton's manual says that if it continues to leak then it is a sign that the output shaft bushing is going bad. My question is where is the output shaft bushing, do I have to remove the tranny to get to it, and how hard is it to put a new one in? Thanks for your time and help.

The output shaft bushing I believe is the seal between your driveshaft and the tranny. You shouldn't need to yank the tranny back out to replace it, just the driveshaft. Hope this helps.

Re: How to change output shaft bushing?

You Have to have a specialty tool to remove and install this bushing. I had to rent/borrow one for $25.00 from a local tranny shop because the bushing on my new tranny was installed wrong. It is a $300.00 tool from snap-on, but it makes changing the bushing like a 15min job. I also had to leave him my credit card until I got back.

good luck, will

So Will... Do I have to take the rear housing of the transmission off to get to it? Will it be pretty obvious on which one it is? Thanx.
