How can I tell if a gear is 2 series or 3 series?

My LT1 has a 2 series carrier (2:73's).

I have a set of 3:23's laying around - they are out of my v6. I have run 3:08's, 3:23's. 3:42's and 4:10's in the v6 - and countless rears/ diff's.... and I just don't remember what rear/ diff was in the v6 when the 3:23's were in there. My guess is the 3:23's are for a 3 series carrier.... but is there a way visually to tell if it is a 2 or 3 series gear?

Thanks!

The higher number gears for a lower carrier series will have a very thick ring gear.
