they are hard to hook on street tires at the track, a 245/50/16 drag radial on the other hand wouldnt be so bad
Re: how 4.10's hook
i have 4.10 right now on 235 tires! its crazy!1 gear is VERY short And its impossible to drive my car in rain and VERY funny in snow! But after smoky burnout and practice shifting 1 to 2 fast, its accelerate VERY fast! Some times it star just burning the tires!
Re: how 4.10's hook
I have 4.10's and also have 275/40/17 street tires.
In warmer weather I ease out and then floor it there is no wheel spin period.
If I dump the clutch at 3K there is some wheel spin but it will begin to hookup quickly.
If you dump it over 3.5K its nothing but white smoke.
If you run 4.10's with stock size smaller tires you will most likely have traction issues. I have no regrets at all, I love the power out of the hole when you dont want to spin tires. The power comes on rocket fast as opposed to waiting for the power to come on with 3.42's.
Now when its cold out there is no flooring it in first or it will spin and second gear in my car is iffy. I dont drive in the snow but I assume it will become more diffficult.
Bottom line with 4.10's, make sure you have quality tires that are known to hook or you will end up hating the gears. Also be weary of drag radials or you will most likely end up breaking ring gears.
I have the Yukon R&P from Randys ring and pinion with the lifetime anything goes free replacement warranty.
The overall improvement in accelaration especially out of the hole is breath taking.
During this past winter I installed headers, RR's, better valve springs and plug wires as well as a much better clutch. Right now its more difficult to launch due to the cold roads. I clearly have substantial more power and if the car breaks traction tro the point that it is annoying I might go to the 3.73's.
I am anxious to see how the car performs when the weather turns warmer.

Re: how 4.10's hook
w/ 4.11s and 315 sumitomos, traction is a major problem. I can still roll into first and go full throttle second and get acceleration much better than stock, though. 4.10/11s are fun regardless of the tires, but you'll need to get a wider/stickier tire to appreciate them fully. Just look in the wheels/tires section for suggestions on tires, there's too many choices to go through them all here.
Re: how 4.10's hook
I have slicks and I still spin off the line with my 4.11's lol. I'm not spinning horrible or anything like that, but I'm not deadhooking. However, I suspect that 5500 RPM clutch dumps have something to do with that LOL!

you'll prolly get couple launches out of them depedning how hard you nail it, it's really like playing russian roulete with your rear
You'll prolly break the teeth off the ring gear and pinion
These 10 bolts just suck

Re: how 4.10's hook
Surprisingly enough, even with 4.10's in my car and the A4 (with its low 3.06 1st gear) I've had very little trouble hooking up off the line!
Check out the times in my sig, and that run was on STREET TIRES, not on my DR's!
On the DR's, my best 60' was I think 1.96, and the 1/4 time was around ~13.08. My best 60' time ever was 1.92, and that was also on STREET tires!
In fact, the car hooked so well with the 4.10's that I realize I really need a stall converter!
Now I don't know how my tires will be holding up this summer. They're Hankook H405's or something like that, stock 245/50/16 size. For DR's I've got the BFG Comp T/A's (255/50/16).
If you do the M6 swap where you can launch at any RPM, then yeah, you may start to have problems (launching and breaking things) but with the auto, where you have the ability to pre-load the drivetrain before you launch, the gears should hold together longer, and traction is surprisingly better than you might expect
