How are 3.73's in an M6???
Is it worth the swap. I want a higher ratio but I can't do 4.10's for traction reasons. I want the car to rev a little higher cruising especially on the freeway in 6'th and get off the line a little faster. Are 3.73's worth it or is the gain very minimal?
Well considering i have a chunk of 4.10 pinion gear on my desk here and an even larger chunk of 4.10 ring gear on my wall....id have to say 4.10s in a puny 7.5 arent a great idea. they feel good but eh.
If you are talking about a 10-bolt, neither are really a good idea. I went from a 3.42 10-bolt to a 3.73 12-bolt and am very happy. I am already crossing the traps at 5700 or so in 4th gear so 4.10's would have been too much. I guess it depends on how far you want to go with the car and what your goals are. I personally never put a cent into my 10-bolt and am glad I didn't
Hey,
I've never experienced 4:10s, but I do have 3.73s up from a 3.42
and I have 0 complaints. The car is a M6. Well, maybe just 1. I just installed the gears and can't get down on the car like I want to because of the recommended breakin cycle
Other than that...I like them.

I don't like 3.73's they are bad for what i do, I ussually like to put it in 2nd when I race someone on the HWY doing 60mph, with 3.73's 2nd is too short & 3rd is too long, with 4.10's 3rd becomes my 2nd
& its way way fun to drive, also, gasmilage is uneffected with 4.10's, on the HWY doing 60mph in 6th gear you only notice a 150rpm difference between 4.10's & 3.42's, unless you start going 100mph you don't see much of a split so your gas milage is barely effected.
on the street though, I ended with better milage cuz the car was never under load after the gears, I love 4.10's & I'm never going back

I've had 3.73s in my car for about 5 years. I like them, but everyone's tastes are different. There was a noticeable performance improvement over 3.42s according to my butt-o-meter. No the change is not as dramatic as going from 3.42s to 4.10s, but dramatic is not necessary IMHO. First gear is not too short to be impractical (as with 4.56s) and 6th is now a little more useful at less than autobahn speeds.
No one can tell you whether it is worth it or not, as that is a subjective judgment that only you can make. For my needs I was pleased with the step up to 3.73s and would do it again.
