highway drivin

i have a question...i do a lot of highway driving.....so in 4rth gear (OD) driving (so speeds like 75-100) on the highway...is the 60E working hard or making heat or is this a period where it is chilling just getting cool fluid from the cooler(2 coolers since i hooked my cooler to the stock one it gets double cooling) Im gonna make a 450 mile trip (that just one way so 900) and i havent had time to install my tranny temp sender and gauge to monitor...
by the way i have the stock 60E with the pressure up quite a bit and a 24000 B&M cooler connected to my stock cooler..

You'll be fine With a tranny cooler installed too... you definitely shouldn't have issues with just doing a normal highway drive.

Also, it is the middle of the night and you TTT'd your topic in less than an hour!?!? Please give peopel a chance to respond

Nah, I bet the 'Drivetrain' forum guys do though.

I'd assume that when the converter is locked up in 4th, that there's very little heat being produced compared to city driving. I may be wrong though.

As far as clutch band wear, leaving it in overdrive around town is probably pretty bad because it switches from 4th to 3rd a lot.

With double coolers though, I'd say your safe as far as overheating goes.

ya i hate when a 10 min trip to the store takes 50 shifts...i leave it in D (3rd) around town or below 60mph.....what i wanna find out is if driving in 4rth at high speeds has any affect or wearntear on the tranny? or if it is the best time for the tranny b/c the convertor is locked up and nothing is spinning moving (i may be wrong) Thanks Don

I drive my Z28 from Southwest Florida to New York (1350 miles, each way) often - never ever had a problem. I even TOWED a boat in overdrive for the entire 1350 miles a few months ago. Again, no problem.

Oh yeah, I used 87 octane fuel too. LOL!
