FINALLY...something on an LT1 that isn't expensive.

Getting a trans-go installed in about two weeks. So I went down to the local auto parts store today to pick up a new filter and pan gasket(might as well change em while the tranny's out). Autozone had em for $9.00 but didn't have one in stock, Advance Auto had em for $11.00 and they did, so I bought one. Filter & gasket came in a kit. I swear that is the cheapest thing I've ever bought for my Z... ever. I just picked up a replacement bulb for my fog light about 2 weeks ago and it was almost $9.00. Just when I was thinking owning this car was rediculous....I go and find a nice price like that. Well, guess I'm gonna hafta keep er for a few more years. By the way, do I need some RTV or anything for the pan/gasket reinstall? Or do I just stick the gasket in there and bolt it back up?

lol, don't by an ls1 then. lt1 parts are cheap compared to them.

EDIT* ( *Edit - You beat me to it! ) lol, that's funny. We need a sec counter on this board to take reaction times.

If you think LT1 parts prices are bad, check out the price of some LS1 mods. It will make you feel even better

I wouldnt [and don't] use RTV on trans pan gaskets .. too much risk of a piece or 'gob' getting into the fluid, then into a passage or orifice inside trans..

LS1s cost alot to mod, but also respond amazingly well to mods. Some cam only cars are making what, 450RWHP these days?

Granted a cam kit runs around $2000 i believe.

Getting a stock LT1 to 450 RWHP would cost alot more tho.

Yeah I know about the whole performance parts bit. After owning a couple mustangs before my first F-body(the current LT1) it took some getting used to on the performance side of things. I'm just talking about routine maintanace and stuff though, it's just outrageous that I'm spending $25 bucks for a headlight, $9 bucks for a fog light bulb. $70 bucks for a set of REAR brake pads, $100+ for a simple tuneup, etc. I'm more used to it now than before, but it was definately a welcome change to hear an actual "low" price on the other end of the phone when I was price quoting today. It really helped that I'm so used to hearing big dollar amounts that it was so minimal. I even asked to make sure she had the right part on the screen.

On the other note so it's a no go for RTV, just stick the gasket on and tighten her down. Another question then, if I decide to go with a deeper pan at some point, I assume I can use the same gasket(or the one supplied if it comes with it) but do I have to use a filter that hangs down lower into the pan now since it's deeper?

Yeah i know where you are comming from. Im 19 and this is the first car ive owned. So far it seems like the car has sat in the garage having something or another fixed/modded more than ive actually been driving it.

I think i can see the light tho, with my new transmission ill just need a 12bolt and race drive shaft and i should be good until the engine blows up. Which will hopefully be a few years.

These dam things are expensive to keep running, but the looks i get when im driving it, people asking "wow that your car?", when its actually running good, and smoking some idiots makes it all worth while
