Help chosing a gear.
Help chosing a gear.
I have an 89 Iroc with the L98 350. I'm running a rearend out of a 305 car. The gear is 2.73. I'm going to be changing it in about 2 months and need help. I going to use the car for a daily driver. I'm just trying to chose between a 3.27 and a 3.42 gear. And I'm trying to chose between Richmond and Jegs's brand. Any Ideas? Will I be able to feel the difference. Also keep in mind I not useing this car as a race car, My little girl rides with me in it. But I do like to go to the track (1/8mile) at times. Thanks guys, Chaz

Re: Help chosing a gear.
My buddy is quite happy with the 3.42's he has in his '96 T/A
. 3.42's have often been touted as being a nice compromise for street/strip. They'll definitely improve the punch off the line, but they won't rob you blind for gas $$$ either
. 3.23's probably aren't that far off 3.42's though, but if you want the SOTP improvement, then 3.42's are probably the way to go. I doubt you want anything as extreme as 3.73's or 4.10's though, eh??

Re: Help chosing a gear.
I was running 3.42's in my 91 with a posi and a 5spd, and there were times that it really kicked and thrashed around corners, which was all fun and good for the then 19 y/o me but you might want to go with the 3.23's just because you are keeping it on the street and your little girl will be riding with you. It still has bite but it's a little mellower. And I would go with the Richmond gears every time.
