Help with choosing a differential.
Help with choosing a differential.
I have a 94 Z/28 with a 383 stroker, 6 speed and stock rear. I want to swap 4.10's and while I'm at it, I want to replace the stock diff. The old one doesnt always spin both wheels and I figured its about done with the increased torque of the 383. What should I replace it with? I'm looking at an Auburn but I'll take any suggestions.
The Eaton for the 10-bolt has a proven track record. Unfortunately, the 10-bolt is a dog, no matter what you do to it. It was also used by one of the magazines that did a 10-bolt "build up". Just be aware, that after pouring about $1,700 into the 10-bolt buildup, they ended up with a rear that they would only recommend for up to 450HP on with an automatic, and not at all for a manual trans with sticky tires.
If you are going to drop $500+ on a new posi, $300 on gears and an install kit, and a few 100 bucks on the install, it might make more sense to look at a 12-bolt or a Strange 60.
Try a "search".... I've posted the links to the 2-part rebuild article. It will have the Eaton part # in it.
