HELP....700r4

Ok, I basically bought a 700r4 out of a running 84 caprice. The tranny worked fine in that car. I bought a Vette servo, B&M shift kit, new filter.

Once I had the thing on a stand, upside down, and opened up. I started installing the B&M etc. While doing the kit and looking at the instruction which show all the various valve bodies, I noticed that this was not the original 1984 tranny, it has to be at least a 1987 tranny (aux valve body, crossover tube etc.)

Anyway, Installed everything, rewired the lockup to lockup only in 4th, and installed manual switch, and LED for the lockup. Installed in my truck (1978 C-10), topped with fluid, adjusted TV cable, and went for test drive.

Problem:

If i take off in OD, it goes through the gears rather quickly, and doesn't seem to downshift as far as it should. It will downshift from 4th to 3rd, and maybe 2nd if i am going pretty slow. I have adjust the TV cable and it seemed to help that......for the most part, that is liveable, but...

If I pull down into 1, and take of fairly hard, when i shift into second it usually goes like i would expect with the shift kit (really hard and fast), then when i go to 3rd, nothing happens, when i go to OD, nothing happens. It stays in 2nd, only, when i let off the gas pedal, it feels like neutral, then once i hit the gas again, it will not grab until high rpm as if it was in 2nd. I either have to stop completely, or, let off the gas, shift to neutral, then into OD, then it goes to 3rd, OD and locks up.

If i let it shift to 4th and lockup, and can pull it down into each gear, 3rd, 2nd, and then 1st.

There are no odd smells or anything, but I have only put maybe 20 miles on it. Up on the highway, It all seems normal (much better than the TH350 i pulled out which really sucked once i installed the 3.70 posi, (had 3.08 open diff)

If it will go into, and pull in all 4 gears, then the tranny is neccesarily toasted.....right?

Any help, or info would be greatly appreciated
