Exclamation Help!!

Alright here is the deal. Tranny pulls fine off the line, shifting into 2nd seems like I'm driving a manual there is a delay between shifts and almost so smooth you don't even know it shifts. Before it use to throw me back into the seat. The other thing is at high RPM's there is not the pull there use to be when I was at WOT. When I am crusing at like 75 or 80 and punch it it goes to 4000 or 5000 RPM and will not downshift nor is there any pull that would be expected at that high of an RPM. I check the fluid which is fine and I just rebuilt it about 10k ago. Its a 4L60E in a 96Z so any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Help!!

And you've rulled out power problems? It sounds more like the car is down on power rather then a tranny issue. But I could be wrong. Check the car over and make sure it doesn't do this in all gears if it does then your down on power and you will need to find out why...

Re: Help!!

well i ddin't think about that, I do know that when I just got back I tried to light the tires up and the car shutter or shook violently and then stopped the minute I got out of it and started pulling. It does do it in all gears but I never though it to be a power problem. It just started the other day down the interstate. It was driving fine all day then went to come home and on the way tried to pass someone but absolutly no pull or power so I dunno. How do I find out on the power without a dyno??

Re: Help!!

If it doesn't pull or feel like it has power in any gear then that is a good sign that it is a power issue.

Do you have anything that can be used to measure temp? Are you running the stock cats? Are you running cats at all?

If running cats specialy if they are factory check temp before and after and see if they are clogged. This could bring power down and come from out of the blue...

Re: Help!!

I'm still running stock cats, I have SLP shorty headers on it, but do you mean check the engine temp or the cat temp?? My engine temp is running right at the 1t hash above 160 so guessing 180-200 range. It will have powerwhen it first shift into the gear, so at low rpm but high rpm sucks.

Re: Help!!

Sorry, I was suggesting testing the exhaust temps before and after the cats if there is a large difference then the cats are clogging up, or have clogged.

Re: Help!!

Checked engine, all is good. Trans pulls ok at low rpm but is slow to respond as the rpms increase. Trans use to shift hard between gears and now shifts slow and soft. Could this be a torque converter or one of the soleniods.
