Hard thump / popping sound

1995-Z like new with only 26k miles. Automatic transmission, Car is completely stock. The car runs perfectly and the transmission shifts perfect but it recently started making a thumping / popping sound that's coming from under the car, can feel it come from under the cars floorboard and resonates through the shift lever. Almost Sounds like a transmission mount or rear-end mount that has come lose?

Only happens under heavy load, when I put my foot down on her and she changes or is just about to shift. Then thump!

Any idea what this is?

Thanks,

I'd say your right, tranny mount is a good guess, see if you can push up or sideways on the tranny with your foot. I had one do that, and if you looked under the car from the rear you could see the tail of the trany was moved towards the passenger side a couple of inches...

Yup definetely sounds like a tranny mount. When mine went out on my 97 Z28 A4 it sounded and felt like someone dropped a bowling ball on the floor board.

Should be a fairly inexpensive fix <$100

You got it right! just like a bowling ball hitting the floorboard from the bottom. Should I take it to the dealer?

Thanks,
