Hard to shift
Hard to shift
So I go out to drive my car today, and shifting is a chore. I had to use two hands to get the thing in reverse (no, it's not the reverse lockout, it slides over just fine). All the other gears are hard to shift into as well, both with car off and on, all speeds, all RPMs. No gear grinding.
Every once in a while for the past couple weeks my shifter has had an episode when the pedal would get mushy. A little driving and it would go back to normal. Then my clutch started disengaging and engaging at different petal positions. And now this.
I have two suspects for this: hydraulics, and the clutch fork. I've bled the hydraulics a few times, both by hand and with a Mighty Vac, never got any better. So tomorrow I plan on pulling the slave off and shining a flashlight up into the tranny to see if the fork bolt is backing out. I put loctite on there, so if that's it I will be pissed. I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar problem or some input before I start tearing stuff apart.
Clutch in sig has 10k miles on it, only slightly abused, no track time. TIA.

Green, did you ever find out what is causing this for you? I just recently started having the same problems. I am waiting on a intermediate shaft (my lower u-joint on mine is about to fall apart) before I take mine in to work to figure it out. Once I get it on the a lift I'm going to pull the hydraulic system out and bleed it. IMO, in my case, it only acts up after driving it for awhile = heat problem. I also get the different clutch pedal engagement points after driving for a bit. It acts like the clutch doesn't disengage fully when the clutch is NOT depressed, so it could either be a blockage problem in the line, air in the line, or possibly the slave cylinder is sticking once it heats up. I'll post back with what I find hopefully in the next week.
BTW, it's embarrasing as hell to have to push your car out of a parking spot when you can't get it to go into reverse.

Well, I got to work on it today. Pulled the slave cylinder, and the bolt for the fork looks tight. I pulled the inspection cover, and it looks pretty dry in there, although there is a lot of oil grime on the bellhousing and underside of the tranny. I know my intake is leaking badly, and I pray it isn't the rear seal.
And guess what? Today it drove just fine. No hard shifting. It started doing the light clutch pedal again, but after a little bit of driving went back to regular pedal pressure and engagement. So I am stumped. Both the master and slave cylinder were bone dry.
I am pretty close to pulling the hydraulics (which I don't want to do) and completely bench bleeding them. There was good pressure on the slave rod when I bolted it back to the bellhousing, so I have no idea. I'm guessing there is still air in there, maybe my reservoir diaphragm has a hole in it. I'll be checking all that tomorrow.

UPDATE:
Well I bled the hydraulics again, and noticed the reservoir level was too high. So I drained it to the right level and now the clutch works fine!
I think it's still slipping just a little from my rear intake leak, so that is next on my list.
redcamaroz28, I'll update this again next week to let you know if this was indeed the problem. I would recommend checking all the things I already listed though. Good luck.

Im having the same problems. Its slips in reverse or just engages really hard. Ever once in a while it will throw it out of 1st and 3rd and grind. Had the tranny rebuilt 600 miles ago and just replaced the rearseal. My clutch was having the same problems as your also but when i replaced the rearseal it works fine but just gets mushy when i hold the clutch in 1st. after light pedaling it goes back to normal.

Green, I'm leaving for work now so hopefully if we're not busy this afternoon i'm going to throw it on a lift and take it off to bench bleed it. /crossesfingers
I'll post up tonight with results.
Edit: Opened the reservoir today, fluid level was fine, just really dark. I sucked all the fluid out of it, put new fluid in the reservoir, and pumped the clutch a good 20 times. Did that about 5-6 times to get as much new fluid in the lines past the master cylinder as I could. It feels a bit better, but since it is Saturday I didn't have my normal 30 min in stop and go traffic, so I'll see if it's fixed on monday.
