Unhappy hard knock coming from tranny or drive shaft when accelerating. What is this???

I have a 97 LT1, A4 and it just turned 50,000 miles. Tonight for the first time, a very loud knock/bang came from the transmission or drive shaft when I would accelerate moderately and the car shifted into 2nd. It sounds as if someone is hitting under my car with a sledge hammer. You can feel it when it happens.

Is my f'n tranny going out or is something loose? Anyone have any idea?

Sounds like abusted tranny mount. They make a hellava racket when that happens. I've had it happen twice before I got a Poly replacement

The tranny mount is prety easy to install, not much to it. Another option for the loud band could possibly your torque arm came loose. It has happenned to me before. But more then likely, the tranny mount gave way.

I have no experience with the tranny at all. How many mounts does it have, and where are they located?

It isn't hard to find, just look around by the tranny. Go to that link, and that is what the tranny looks like. It would be bolted to the tranny and a bracket. Easy to find and replace, just look.

It was the tranny mount. The mount had spilt in two pieces so it was trashed. Thanks for the help and info guys!!
