Question grinding on downshift to 2nd...

I found some similar q's when searching, but no good answers and thought I'd see if anyone had this same problem.

When I downshift to 2nd the gears grind, but only sometimes. I can't figure out the pattern, but it definitely happens more when the the clutch is hot from aggressive driving. For instance I drove the car around town all day sat, including several hard launches from 0-90 or so and there was no grinding. Then today, thinking maybe the problem had gone away I going about 35 MPH and got a terrible grind trying to downshift to 2nd and accelerate. It refused to go into 2nd until I double clutched. Then at the following red light as I downshifted to stop it gave me the same grinding noise and then popped into gear.

It was fine the rest of the day--Anyone know what's wrong?

It's a 98 SS M6, 56k Miles---Bone stock. I've had it 4 years (since 25k Miles)...I'm agressive with it, but I don't abuse it.

The thing is I was scoping out a good heads/cam combo, but I don't want to break the bank on performance mods if there's a big expense coming up to fix this.

That's kinda what I thought (the clutch isn't disengaging), but why would the problem be so intermittent?? Is this a hydraulics issue or a sign that I need a new clutch or what?

I guess I’m gonna bite the bullet and take it to aamco here and see what they think, I’d just really like to know what I’m in for before doing so. I was thinking at least someone here would have had this problem before—anyone?
