Got in new gears, one is chipped! problem?

i just got a new set of gears in a few minutes ago. one of the pinion teeth has a little chip in it, is that gonna be a problem. i heard that you can run them like that and it wouldn't hurt anything, and i have got to get my car back on the road so what does everyone think on this?

Post a picture of the chip...you're version of a small chip might be different from ours.

since they are new I would recommend that you just send them back for a replacement. But to answer your question it really shouldnt affect them that much if the front side of the tooth is still intact. Its broken way on the back side and its hard to tell from the pick if the front side is affected.

Looks like it might be ok, might not. I wouldnt chance it I would just send them back for a new set.

yeah i'm just gonna call them and see what they say. i think they should just replace them, i would rather not put all this work into this rearend to have the gear shatter in a few weeks or months. they gonna have to make it right. thanks everyone for your input.

Dont run that pinion. If it chipped like that from shipping there might be something wrong with the composition of the metal. I think clearly it was removed from the packing and dropped on the floor, that could not happen in the styrofoam.
You should have no problem getting a replacement.

What brand gear?
