Is it hard to move the lever to the right, past the 5/6 slot, to get it into the reverse slot? Or do you mean it moves to the right fine into the reverse slot, but is then hard to move so it goes into gear?

Where, exactly is the trans fluid leaking out?

Is it possible your reverse lockout solenoid is damaged, leaking, and not allowing the lever to move to the right without strong-arming it?

yeah its really hard to get past 5-6 gear but once its over thier it goes in easy and doesnt popp out at all.

the leak is coming from were the bellhousing and tranny meet, also it seems that sometimes when i drive my transmission will jump up and down a little bit. could it be a mount? or possiblly loose bolts??

If its hard to push the lever to the right, the reverse lockout solenoid is not working. There is a permanent block, that is pulled out by the solenoid. Its posible to force past it with enough pressure. Why not check the reverse lockout solenoid?

Excessive up-and-down bouncing can be the result of a broken tranny mount.... or loose bolts. Time to crawl under it and check things out.

Is the leak oil (engine rear main seal), or red ATF (tranny input shaft seal)?

The T56 tranny should have ATF in it, which is typically red. There is a cover plate near the starter you can remove and look into, if I recall correctly (my T56 disappeared 8 years ago).

Yes, as Fred said, there is an inspection cover on the lower part of the bellhousing. Unbolt it and feel around in there. If there is a lot of oil inside the bellhousing, then your rear main seal is probably leaking. Try to reach up and feel the top of the bellhousing as well. It's possible your intake is leaking down, but I doubt it would leak that much. Chances are it's the rear main.
