Is going to 3.73s from 3.23s worth it?

Just curious. I know going from 3.23s to 3.42s is a waste of time and money for minimal gains. And it's like going from 3.42s to 3.73s, very minimal or am I wrong? I just don't want to waste $500 on installed gears for only .2 tenths.

I had swapped 3.42s into my old a '91 Trans Am with stock 2.73s and it was a great mod. Especially since I got disc brakes in the process. Had aluminum drums stock.

personaly i would not waste the money...
i started with 2:73 and went to 3:73 and it was awesome... then the pinion gear shattered...
so then i bought a complete 3:42 and didn't notice any differance...

the next time i do gears i WILL be installing 3:23's...

reason 1 being i have more than enough to pull off a decent launch, reason 2 is that i noticed cars with lower gears seem to pull harder, and reason 3 is that they are stronger and i don't have all the money to throw into a 12 bolt...

3:42 to 3:73 does not make that much of a difference only time you will notice is top end(like on highway)in overdrive@ 80MPH rpm's will be about 500 different

.2 tenths is all you might pick up. But then again, that gain is like 2 car lenghts in the quarter mile. You decide.

There is probably more cost effective mods you can set your sights on right now.

I have only a small mod list and gears are one of them. Intake, cutout, 3000 stall, 3.73s, 1.7s, OBD1 conversion w/ tune. I would like to hit 12's with this combo, think I can?

Its a possibility, but hard to say. If you add a set of headers and some weight reduction into the mix then you should be able to snag some 12sec timeslips.
