GM Gears - Part #??

Where can I get TRUE GM 3.73 3 series gears for my 1996 z28. I know the S10's are the same. Does anyone have these in their car? If so do you have a GM part #??

Thanks

why do you want factory gears?

I have broke 5 sets of richmond gears and all of my friends have broke a lot of other sets. The GM gears seem to hold up better on the street and make less noise.

Sounds like someone is setting them up wrong. I had a set of Strange 3.73's in my old 10 bolt that had over 100 track passes on them and they held up just fine. My car makes more power than yours and would 60' in the 1.6 range...

I have to strongly agree. Richond makes excellent gears, while I have heard they are slightly more noisy, they can hold up to a good bit a power. I know a lot of people here has had great success with them. Just something to think about before buying the GM's.

I would call your local Chevy dealer for the part number or order it directly from them.

Another thing.... GM gears are ment for the average run of the mill Putz of a car owner. They would be designed to be a quiet as possible to eliminate customer complaints. (provided they are set up correctly). Unless it's GMPP, it wouldn't be designed for abuse. -Just the avreage Joe-Shmo driver.

just my $0.02

Well I have to agree with you on the fact that they probably weren't set up 100% correct. But pretty close. My friend had GM 3.42 gears that were installed in his 97 z28 that originally came with 2.73's. They made no noise and held up to all kinds of hell.

if you keep breaking the gears, invest in a stronger rear

Or just get them installed correctly.
