GM 3.73's for 10m bolt

I want to get genuine GM 3.73 gears for my camaro.
The Motives I have now are quiet but do make some noise coming off the pedal.
I went to the dealer and they told me they only list up to 3.42's
However the SSR pickup comes with 3.73's in a 10 bolt.
Does anyone know a part number for 3.73's or if the SSR's will fit?
I have the Zexel Torsen 3 series carrier.

Thanks in advance

The dealer more than likely just looked up the gears that were available from the factory on our cars. I can take a look Monday at work (I work for the company that supplies axle assemblies to GM )as to rather or not 3.73's are still made that will fit the 7.6 rear and hopefully have a part number for you. I'm pretty confident we would have them because any manufacturer needs to run service parts occasionally.

Great,
The dealer said 3.73's are available for the SSR pickup with 10 bolt but couldn't tell me if they would fit.
I'll look forward to what you can find out.
Thanks in advance.

I think I have read that the S10s had 3.73 gears that would interchange. Not positive about it.

The dealer said the SSR was an S10 with a fancy roadster like body.

Most any hi performance gear is going to make some noise. And any shop will set it up where most likely you will hear it on decel. I have Motive 3.73s also, any have just a little noise on decel. Nothing like the Richmonds I use to have, although those are suppose to be stronger. I also bought the Motives because they are suppose to be one of the quietest gears out there. And I thought I read that they are the ones that make GM gears? You might want to check into that as I'm not 100% sure. I'd just hate for you to waste your money. How much noise are we talking about?

I also think it is normal to have some noise and would expect it to be barable since the exhaust noise is way higher.
If you have to change another option is the AAM gears. I've recently put a set on my Impala and they make no noise at all and very easy to setup.

The gears make a "grrrr" type of noise if they're coasting between loaded accelerating and loaded decelerating.
It's loud enough to annoy me and takes away from the enjoyment of the car IMO especially at highway speeds of 65+ mph.
My exhaust is only a little louder than stock due to a twister bullet in the "I" pipe.
The old set of Motives 3.73's I had were made in Italy and made the same noise then got burnt when the fluid ran out of the rear end due to a slow drip.
The $520.00 trade price for 3.73's for an S10 or SSR is not a problem for me.
My mechanic 5 doors down the street drag races on the weekends and has over 25 years experience working for a GM dealer before opening his own shop. I trust him to do as good a job instaling them as is possible.
I want the car quiet with no gear noise like as if it came from the factory.
I'm willing to take a risk on this.
I'll take my old Motive 3.42's with me to the dealer to make sure the bolt holes line up before I pay for them.
If it works I'll post the results for anyone else who wants
to have factory like quiet 3.73 rear gears.

Fixed.

TBSS and SSR have a LOT in common.

Thats because AAM is the OE supplier for most of GM's Axle Assemblies. So, you basically got a factory replacement piece

AAM has a plant right here in Buffalo.
Maybe I should visit them and see what they say.

If you can find a set of AAM gears (new) online, that are specifically labeled for the Camaro or Firebird I would get them. It wouldnt surprise me if the S-10 and SSR had the same gears though.

I'll go see AAM tomorrow.
I know exactly where the plant is as it used to be a Builders Square I went shopping at before Home Depot crushed them.
They won't sell me the gears as they're a huge wholesale manufacturer but hopefully can tell me where to buy them from.
I believe the SSR came with an LS1 so the gears in that 10 bolt are probably the same as our FBodies.

FYI... in '06, they upgraded the SSR to an LS2. Before that, though, you're right -- it's an LS1.

AAM couldn't tell me any real info other than they supply GM, Ford, Toyota etc.
I ordered some 3.73's for a 2005 A4 SSR from a GM dealer.
I'll let you guys know if this works out for me in a few weeks.
