Which gears?

I know this has been asked a million times, and I did run a search, but I still can't decide between 3.73's or 4.10's. I'm expecting my car to be trapping around 116mph n/a, but I will be spraying a 200-250 shot in the near future. Anybody know what I'd trap with this setup? Will I have to shift into 5th at the end of the quarter with the 3.73's? Cause if I do than I might as well go with the 4.10's. Any thoughts?

Re: Which gears?

I've heard that 4.10's and nitrous don't go well together so I would probably say go 3.73's.

Re: Which gears?

Without the N2o if you think it will trap at about 116 then you will be in 4th gear at the big end with both gear sets depending on the motor.. What RPM is you motor making power at and what is the redline/shift points? What size tires are you planning on running? Play with the calculator in my sig and plug in your numbers.

BTW, with N2o you will more then likely, be in 5th unless you step up to a 28" tire.. 3.73's reving to 6K RPM's and a 28" tire will not run 4th gear out untill 134 MPH.. Rev higher then you get more MPH, but you have to be making the power up there to rev higher. Just FYI, 4.10's reving to 6K RPM's and a 28" tire will not run 4th gear out untill 122, and if your stroker makes power up to say 6400-6600 then the 4.10's will be good to 132 MPH in 4th gear.

What you need to know is where you will be making power and where your shift points will be, and you can figure it out for the most part, obviously more things go into racing then just tires and gears so you have to get it all sorted out. My calculator gives you the fixed math of tires size vs final gear ratio vs tranny gear ratio = MPH for a given RPM, and in no way tells you how much power you have or how fast you will go, it will just tell you at (X) rpm I will be going (Y) MPH if you have (H) tires and (I) rear gears while in (J) gear.
