gear shift

Anyone know why when I am at a stop and I press down on the clutch pedal and shift into first it sometimes feels like the gears are still spinning in the tranny. Seems like the transmission is still spinning. When I go to do it a second time it works fine. This only happens like once in a while. Just bought the car its a 1999 ss. Any help is greatly appresiated

What do you mean? All the gears are always spinning inside a T56, it's the output shaft that doesn't spin in neutral. Do you mean it still feels like the clutch is dragging when you go to shift into first, instead of being fully disengaged?

I don't really understand the whole tranny lingo but when I push down the clutch pedal and shift intofirst it feels like I am grinding a gear in the stick, so I pull it back into neutral and put it back into first and its fine.its like something is still spinning and I am grinding something
