Gear Ratio or Speedo?

Folks:

I noticed since I got my 94 Z in the past month that my speedo seems to be reading slow compared to the other vehicles around me. I got out my trusty GPS to see if I could get an accurate comparison between the speedo and actual.

What I found was if I hold steady at about 50, the GPS reads approximately 60. If I go 60, the GPS reads 72.

Do you think this is a speedo issue or do you think the rear end had been replaced/regeared by a previous owner?

Thoughts?

Scott

Compare your RPMs at actual 60 MPH and play with a calculator like www.f-body.org/gears/ Plug in different ratios until it matches. People change gears all the time. I went from 2.73 to 3.42 - but changed the setting in the PCM. You can also get the car in the air and see how many times the driveshaft turns/complete wheel turn - or pull the cover.
