Gear problem?
Gear problem?
When I am at a stop and I hit the accelerator, I hear a clunk coming from the rear. It is not the tranny mount due to the fact that the clunk happens at the very first part of first and not when shifting into second. Now, if I ease into the acceleration there is not a clunk. I don't necessarily feel the clunk, just hear it. It also sounds like it is coming from the passenger side. Could this be the gears, or could it be something that connects to the wheel from the axle, or what can it be?
Re: Gear problem?
It can still be your tranny mount. If you floor it and take off the transmission might jump. Also, if the tranny is stock and has no shift kit, it obviously isn't going to make a hard enough shift to "clunk" it. I would check the tranny mount before anything, besides, it is also the easiest.
Might be a slim chance that your gears have worn away so the back spacing is making the noise. If the noise just came out of no where fairly quickly I would say it is the tranny mount. Wearing gears would slowly bring about the noise, plus it might make a whining noise while driving.

Re: Gear problem?
I just checked the tranny mount not more than a month ago. It is not the same symptoms as when I had tranny mount problems before. I don't feel it in the console and it doesn't clunk when shifting from 1-2 2-3, etc. It clunks right when I hit the accelerator to go, but only when I punch it a little harder than usual; and I'm not talking launching as I don't race my car.
Re: Gear problem?
Maybe some more helpful diagnosing info. It sort of feels/sounds like something is not engaged and when I hit the gas it feels/sounds like it is engaging and making a clunking sound. Sort of like when your transmission fluid is too low and you get that clunking feel/sound when it finally shifts into gear. This however is not the transmission, it is definately coming from the rear.
