ford 9 inch question

ford 9 inch question

i was told in order to get a 9 inch you had to find a car or truck(ford) below a 85 model well i went out and found 73 ltd and it doesnt look like a 9 inch .....whats the deal ?

Even if you found an original 9", it will need a lot of modifications to bolt up to a 4th Gen F-Body (torque arm mount, spring purches, LCA mounts, axle tubes shortened, rear brake mounting plates, etc).

its not worth the cost to make one out of old parts, you can buy a 9 inch housing/axle kit for around 900-1000 bucks new, axles alone are around 400 shipped, then you need bearings 50-75 bucks, T bolts and the bearing retainer rings, till its all said and done you buy a used housing thats half rusted out your better off buying a moser kit.

if all your looking for is a housing/axle there 900-1000 a complete bolt in kit is around 2000-2500 depending on what all you want on it.
