Flushing the transmission?
Is their any way to flush an automatic transmission? I mean flush all the fluid, toque converter and all. I was told one way of doing it is just pull the tranny cooling line off the radiator and let the fluid come out while the engine is running. But how safe is this for the transmission?
Re: Flushing the transmission?
Don't ever try to drain the transmission while the car is running.
worst thing you can do to a torque converter is run it dry.
Without a tranny flush machine and/or taking the tranny out and phisically draining the torque converter theres no real way of doing it.
Personally i would pull both tranny cooler lines off the radiator and put about 10-20psi or regulated air into them just to clear out the cooler and the lines.
Unless you're tranny is fried already atf usually lasts a very long time.
You just wanna get all the worn clutch and band materials out.
what i'm saying is that yes you need to change the fluids, but its not because the tranny fluid is no longer good, its because it has lots of suspended particles from the tranny in it, changing the filter in the tranny is important make sure you do that.
good luck Mike
