flexplate problems / wrong flexplate?

i think i made a mistake when i replaced my flexplate a few months back...
i cracked my original one so i just bought an advance auto replacement. i dont remember them looking any different, but the only difference was when i went to put it on, it didnt sit right on there (the center hole was too small and i think i may have ground it out a little to fit and tapped it on with a rubber mallet). i'm pretty sure the teath were the same. a 94 z is supposed to have 153 teeth right? i honestly cant remember how many mine had, but when i looked on advance auto online, some of their flexplates dont say how many teeth and some say 168 (for the lt1), so i was a little confused. but anyway, i got the flexplate on and started having starter problems about the same time. went through 3 different brands, shimming them different ways and everything. i cracked 2 stock starter housings this week and i also think i have gotten a vibration since when i put the flexplate on. someone i know told me i may have gotten a 305 starter by accident and the center holes are a little smaller on them (unless i damaged it putting it on)...any ideas?

If the one you put on there took force to get on, it could be crooked and tearing up your starters. Get that fixed. Might as well replace it with an SFI approved one. And yes, it has 153 teeth.
