finally..... SFI Approved LT1 Bellhousing available from Mcleod !!!

Mcleod has 25 ready for sale. 8710-15 is the part number. $700 is the price.

my toes sleep better at night now! for anyone that gripes about the price, the cost to repair your car is 10x's that, and you may be nicknamed gimpy after the fact!

you can trust me on the repair tag, and that is only because I had a custom kevlar blanket wrapped around the pos factory aluminum b/h. it would have been much worse.

i can't imagine they will last long.

Turns out that mine is serial number 003.

Really suprised that there haven't been more orders placed for these yet!

well people must not think they need them...... walking on both feet for as long as i can is a priority for me, not even considering costs to repair the car.

Just ordered mine. I'm serial #004.
Now I can get serious about my build up plans.

Great, I'm pleased Mcleod followed through for us.

Anybody fit one up yet? If so, did you check concentricity (crank to trans alignment)? How?

I expected to see a center hole on the trans side, but it is open on the back like the stock bellhousing, so I'm not sure how to verify the alignment is correct.

Received mine today, but not able to bolt it in place yet. Appears to be a good quality piece and most important, it bares the SFI rating sticker.

i would recoemmend using a dial indicator to center the b/h. they even recoemmend it in their instructions! i would not shortcut this step.

congrats! it is a piece of mind.

Yup, I ordered one today, too. I expected #004, but #001 has been returned, so I get it. As an automotive engineer and motorhead, I shall cherish it always as the first of it's kind.

Where's the tear in my eye smiley when I need it?

Edit:

Yes, I agree. But I don't see how - what do you measure TO with the indicator? Usually you mount the bellhousing, put a magnetic dial indicator on the flywheel, spin the engine, and measure to a center hole in the trans side of the housing, right? Then adjust with offset dowels as required.

This has no center hole on the trans side, unless I'm looking at it upside down. Isn't that hole on the engine plate side, for the crank? Meaning there is nothing to measure to at the critical, trans end?

Good question. The stock bell housing doesn't have a center hole on the transmission side either.
