Unhappy Finally came out of denial

I finally stopped lying to myself and have admitted I have tranny problems. It is starting to grind more and more. I don't want it to blow on me when driving it so I am going to have it rebuilt. I want to beef it up a little bit. The car is a daily driver and when I am done with it , it will have about 400 hp so it doesn't have to be a full out bullet proof tranny unless it's worth it. I replaced the clutch about 13k ago and that seems to be fine so I won't be needing a new one right away but will replace that in time. I have a few questions about , How much will parts cost? How much will labor be? And what parts should I get? Thanks for any advise and suggestions.

There is no reason with 400hp to use anything other than OEM level parts. Without knowing what is wrong with the tranny one can't estimate repair costs. However, a rebuild kit with main case bearings, gaskets, seals, nuts, dogs & wires, thrust bearings, needle bearings, extension housing bushing, small parts kit and shifter bushings is in the $250 range retail. But it sounds like yours will need more than a routine rebuild.

Thanks for the info. I just want a to beef it up a little bit to know that have that extra support. It broke once and I want to save it from breaking again anytime soon. I was thinking it was the input shaft or maybe the syncros. Does anybody know what those can run for? Thanks in advance.

I would recommend the steel fork to anyone who has it apart. It is just good insurance.
