Figuring out gears in used car I am buying

Hi,

I am buying a 95 Formula M6 on Saturday. It has either 3.73s or 4.10s in the car, the guy wasnt sure since he bought it used at a lot that way. He thought he had 3.73s. He said that one time using a GPS with the speedo showing 80 the GPS was showing about 65, does that make is sound more likely like a 3.73 or 4.10.

If that isnt enough info, is there a way to figure out what gears are in the car without having to get into the rear end. Somebody said there is some formula, by turning the wheels and counting the revolustion of the axle or something. But didnt get the full explanation.

Thanks,
Charlie

Yeah, mark a white line on the tire and one on the driveshaft. Rotate the tire once, and count how many revs the drive shaft makes, noting the starting and ending point of the line on the driveshaft. EX....3-3/4 shaft turns in one tire rotation = 3.73's

1600=3.42
1800=3.73
2000=4.10
2300=4.56

I dont think you can figure it out with the above since your speedo is off, but Ill post it anyways. I found out I had 4.10s with this, when I thought I was stock.
