Question Engaging clutch sounds like rocks crushing ---

Supposedly my car has the centerforce 2 clutch setup. I notice if I let out on the clutch too slow I hear a "rock crushing sound" until it fully engages. Is this normal or is it time to replace the disc? I dont notice any slipping during hard accelleration.

Maybe I am hearing timing retard? I am not sure...fill in this noob. I want to go to the track tonight for the first time but dont want to be towed home, haha!!! Thanks ---
