DUAL REAR WHEEL DRIVE??? Fishtailing!!

Hey fellas,
I dont know how stupid this question may sound so bare with me im not the most knowledgable guy when it comes to technical detail on 3rd gen cars (specifically "91 RS). Alright, as any 3rd gen. owner knows the rear right wheel has majority if not all the power which cuases the hook/fishtailing effect when ever you give accesive gas on sharp turns or running out the hole. I want to eliminate the problem by simply making my RS dual rear wheel. i know the GT mustangs are Dual i figure i can do the same. I dont exactly know how to go about doing that and if there is anything that will negatively affect the performance of the car if i do so. I heard all chevy rear axles fit, (i.e corvette rear axles) or is there a kit to change this. or is there no solution at all. I'm sure theres a simple solution but this is just not my area when it comes to cars. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

You need a limited slip differential/posi-trac, or better to get this effect. It is simply a matter of putting different carrier in.

yea if you rebuild the rear and install 3:73's and a new posi unit. You'll love the way the car will run. Fishtailing all you want! I am Imagining your car is an automatic?
When i put 4:11's in my car, it was the best mod to date with the madz28 tuning. It really pulls you back into your seat

find a 3rd gen z28, trans am, iroc or ws6 and swap out the rear axles. for the most part (shy of the 4wheel disk break option on some) should bolt right up. and all of those will have a posi rear.

you may be able to find one with better gears too, i know alot came with 3.23s and i'm pretty sure some came with 3.42s

oh and an FYI....posi rears will turn tail on you in a corner if you give it too much gas MUCH easier than your current open differential.

not saying you're wrong...but are you sure it's not just broken? or a swapped rear?

i could see some of the z28s not having posi, but the IROC???

You heard of options? With special ordered cars some people did not belive in options that did not add to appearance.

The IROC-Z came standard with 305 Carb or TBI depending on model year. The TPI engines were extra cost options. 305TPI@ $745 and 350TPI@ $1045 so these were not small change options when these cars were new.

Re: DUAL REAR WHEEL DRIVE??? Fishtailing!!

read up on differentials

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

and open differential basically will feed power to the path of least resistance..

I personally like my Torsen T2R differential (tq sensing) but its pricey.

Others swear by the clutch/cone type diff's.. eatons and auburns are popular brands.

some like the locker ones.. but those have to be tough on our tiny 10 bolts.. plus its relatively harsh for the street when turning.

Then there's the spool.. which is basically no differential action at all.. Great for people only interested to go in straight lines.. ALthough if you that serious into drag racing, I can't imagine a 10 bolt lasting very long anyways.

ok, point taken
with both wheels off the ground, spinning one wheel causes the other to rotate in the opposite direction indicating an open diff
but like u said, my posi could be busted, my cone clutches worn out
i'll be sure to let u know whenever i get around to changing my diff fluid
