Driveshaft ??s

At what point do you know you need a new driveshaft. Is aluminum a good choice or will it break when any serious power is put to it and what kind of gains can someone expect out of an aluminum shaft?

not sure about strength but i think the alum. driveshaft is like 10-15 pounds lighter, and u pick up 1-3 rwhp. i actually have both so i will weigh them and get back to you if youd like

The steel DS weighs about 16#. The 1LE aluminum is about 12#. The WS6 dyno test showed a 1.1 peak HP gain and a 1.8 avg HP gain.

Ill scratch the alum. driveut shaft idea, it was just a thought. but anyway how much can the stock ones handle before i should consider a new one. im not sure i want too much more than 400 hp out of this thing.

Why do you say that? The aluminum shaft is lighter, therefore easier to spin, allowing more power to get to the rear wheels.

It's impossible to have a peak of 1.1hp and an average of 1.8.

An average implies that there are some points where it is over 1.8 and under 1.8. But if the peak is 1.1 then it cannot average 1.8.

Unless you are talking about original peak number vs. new peak number.

Oh... I see what you are saying. I didn't really look at his numbers very close. I thought that you were saying that it's impossible to see any RWHP gains from the aluminum shaft... Sorry...

I think he meant a 1.1HP gain at peak horsepower and a 1.8HP gain through the power curve. If I remember corectly it was also around a 5ft/lbs gain through out the torque curve.
