Driveshaft removal

I picked up a 1LE DS and plan on replacing the stock steel one. Since I've never done this before, what will I need to do? I see the 4 bolts to remove so that should be easy. After that will it just slide forward slightly and pop out or is there something else I'll have to do to get is out?

Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Driveshaft removal

The dr shaft will slide out of the transmission, however be prepared for some fluild loss at this point. This is normal so have some rags ready to clean up the mess.

Re: Driveshaft removal

As you increase your power levels you may want to consider a 3" steel DS from a reputable company...I broke a 1LE DS clean in half last year on the dyno...at 400rwhp...

Re: Driveshaft removal

Right now it's all stock internals. I'm thinking I may do heads and cam over next winter if all goes as planned. At that point I'll certainly upgrade the DS again and sell this one. I just put in the DS loop yesterday so I've got some protection just in case now.

Re: Driveshaft removal

No problems replacing the DS yesterday guys. I needed to break it loose with a screwdriver from the rear since it didn't want to budge. Thanks for the tip on the rags. It certainly cut down on the mess. Onto the next project!
