dreaded 4l60e

Okay I could be an idiot but can these things handle 450 hp and maybe a 150 shot at the track. I've had it rebuilt 3 times now and apparently something isn't working out so i'm going elsewhere. Each rebuilt was supposedly Hi-performance. I know my t/c is good it's a vig 2800 but it kept burning out the 3,4 clutches and two of the three times was when it was stock. I only got about 700 miles with about 400 hp to it before it went south again. This other fella said he can build it and guarantee it and he's got a damn good price compared to what i spent before so we'll see. I just wanted to know if maybe i was being unrealistic in thinking i could run this thing. Do i need to go th400 or 700r4 or swap to a t56. Help me out here i know there are a lot of smart guys on here.

I think most people swap to a turbo 350 or turbo 400. So that might be in your future. I do agree though that putting 400hp to a built 4L60E shouldn't be a problem. Maybe it was the builder.

It should be able to handle it if its built correctly.

450hp + 150hp nitrous shot? Nope, I wouldn't assume that it can be done reliably especially if sticky tires are used. But OTOH I am not a 4L60 expert and if I were in that situation I would call Carl Rossler: www.rosslertrans.com or one of the tranny guys who post here.

Mines been dying since last August. It lasted about 28k miles after the head/cam install and thats only with about 8-10 1/8 mile passes at the track right after the install. T56 install starts in two days.

Or you could get in touch with LT1Dave. Before I decided to go manual I was gonna get my 4L60E rebuilt by him. He's supposed to build pretty stout trannys.
