I have had two 3.42 6 speed cars and really the 3.42 is also not so good in m6 cars they should have came with 3.73 or 4.10 gears but the six speeds make up for it with ability to rev up and dump it and bit more rwhp.

My 2.73 vert is simply pathetic.I did some small mods to it but the car just don't haul until it gets past 3000 plus and it seems to take forever with those 2.73.Around town I swear I would lose to a vw rabbit off the lights. And it seems and not sure if its the lazy gearing or what the sometime the car seems to downshift and just fly and sometimes it seems doggy as heck.I dont think anything is seriously wrong with the car as did just about a 13 the other day after minor mods.Minor being tb bypass,160stat,gms maf and cold air, airfoil, holley air fiilter. It ran 14.3s before the mods.

But seriously do you hate these 2.73s as much as I do.I will be transplanting my 3.42 from my 99 ta into the vert likely next year as planning on 12 bolt with 3.73 in that car.I also plan on a 2800 stall converter as for sure it will help these lazy gears out too.

I actually DO like the 2.73's is the truth.

While they are kinda "doggish" off the line, I like where the downshifts are, and how far the tranny will downshift because of them. Doing anything upto 35 - 40 mph, the tranny will shift back into 1st gear and pull like a sonofab!tch!! Then, at any speed upto ~80 mph, the tranny can shift back into 2nd gear, and again the car pulls like crazy in 2nd all the way upto ~100 mph! Then 3rd gear is almost infinite, as it will run out to ~165 mph.

I had 3.73's in my car last year (gone due to whining noise complaints ) but I actually didn't like them for the fact that they didn't match well with where the transmission wanted to shift. It didn't seem to matter the speed, the transmission would only ever downshift 1 gear at most, and sometimes only shift out of converter lock-up once I was out on the highway.

I find 4th gear almost useless sometimes though..............I don't often use it.
